The second idea for a photo for this project involves a single person in a typical student room. The idea is to have the subject not posing, doing work at a laptop. The frame of the image will be fairly empty, with just a speaker and then a guitar being distinctly evident.
The difference between the above two photos is simply the lighting, the framing is the same with objects also positioned in the same way. The absence of a person means the laptop screen is visible, adding a digital nature to the photo. The left side of the image remains fairly empty, with a speaker on the desk and the guitar being the most prominent objects. This clearly provides a link to music, however to make the intended reading more obvious I can try experimenting with the angles and positioning of the camera, for example bringing the guitar more into the foreground from a low angle.
These three photos include someone in the image, with lighting being experimented with. The inclusion of a person brings a human element to the image; however it is more unclear as to what the person is doing as the laptop screen is not visible. In evaluation, if the person is included it would be more effective to place the laptop so it is visible, with the guitar being emphasised by the use of angle/perspective.
To achieve the lighting used in the final two photos, I used no flash and a very high/sensitive ISO with a very slow shutter speed to allow a lot of light in from what was in the image.
I completed a second shoot with no person in the shot, in an effort to draw more attention to the varying features of music in the room.
In these series of photos I have taken them from varying angles, with some from a high angle and some from a low angle. I have changed position to use framing and composition in different way, placing different objects (parts of the guitar, speakers and laptop) at varying focal points. Additionally, I have changed the depth of field to focus on either the foreground or background. From this photo shoot, I will choose a final selection and edit it for one of the final photos to the project.
